In veterinary medicine, ultrasonography is the second most popular imaging format. Based on the pattern of echoes reflected from the tissues and organs being photographed, it generates pictures of bodily structures using ultrasonic sound waves with a frequency range of 1.5 to 15 megahertz (MHz). Images in a variety of formats can be seen. B-mode grayscale scanning is the most well-known method (and the one that yields the real image of anatomy). A transducer in close proximity to the animal and acoustically connected to it via a transmission gel create the sound beam. The transducer then changes to the reception mode after delivering an ultra-brief sound pulse to the animal. Even when the change in velocity happens at such microscopic levels, echos happen when the sound beam passes from a tissue with one density to one with another. The intensity of the echo increases with the magnitude of the velocity variation. Only a tiny portion of these echoes are returned to the transducer, which subsequently transforms their energy into electrical impulses that the ultrasound machine's computer records.
